RFU SAQ® Speed, Agility & Quickness Training
11 April 2005
To ensure England's rugby's coaches have direct access to the very best continuous professional development around the RFU now have trained tutors in SAQ® who can organise and deliver SAQ® Awards and Workshops for your club or school which will support the delivery of the RFU’s Long Term Athlete Development programme based on the FUNdamental stages of multi skill/ sport movement.
The delivery of the SAQ® product is very much about information awareness through education & training so is an essential part of coaches’ continuous professional development. The courses have been designed by SAQ® INTERNATIONAL working very closely with the RFU to support the delivery of the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) programme and introduce SAQ® Training.
The courses are practical and introduce the essentials of FUNdamental Movement training in an inclusive, multi-skill/non-sports-specific manner so ensuring the maximum relevance for attendees.
The courses are for attendees of all experience levels, and because they are not sports specific it is hoped that many people who otherwise do not play or follow rugby union will get involved. That means everybody from Primary School teachers to health and fitness clubs up and down the country.
Learn how to practically apply the SAQ® Continuum, the progressive sequence of training ‘phases’ that structure the development of fundamental movement skills:
| 1 Dynamic Flex® Warm-Up | Warming up on the move using sports and activity specific movements i.e. forwards, backwards, linerally, laterally, and vertically. |
| 2 Mechanics | Improving the quality of movement leading to greater efficiency and less injuries. |
| 3 Innervation | Increasing the speed and quickness of movements. |
| 4 Accumulation of Potential | Combining quickness and quality of movement. |
| 5 Explosion | Improving the quickness and control of response. |
| 6 Expression of Potential | Practical application of all movement skills. |
| 7 Dynamic Flex® Warm-Down | Returning the body to a state of rest and preparing for future physical activity |
